The International Translation Day
The International Translation Day (30 September) was celebrated at Warsaw Montessori High School by inviting an exceptional guest, an outstanding poet and translator prof. Jerzy Jarniewicz, who gave a lecture for our students on the meanders of translators’ work, differences between national languages and difficulties in translating poetry.
This unique meeting gained additional significance for us when we learned that our guest was awarded the Nike Literary Award two days later. We would like to congratulate Jerzy Jarniewicz on the wonderful, awarded poetry book Mondo Cane and wish him further literary successes and perseverance in promoting knowledge and popularizing this extraordinary and important art of translation.
