Curriculum
A unique combination of Maria Montessori’s philosophy with International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IB DP)
Warsaw Montessori High School combines philosophy of Maria Montessori with International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IB DP).
Montessori philosophy and the IB programme aim to create curious, independent, reflective individuals with a focus on noble work, and a broader worldview. We only need to look at the qualities the IB programme advocates in its Learner Profile, such as reflective, risk-takers, open-minded, principled, to see that the same principles were the goals of Maria Montessori in educating children.
Just like Maria Montessori in her Erdkinder school philosophy, the International Baccalaureate stresses that personal development and community engagement must be a crucial part of educating the adolescents together with a pursuit of their rigorous academic programme.
Pre-IB programme – 1st and 2nd grade
During the first two years of study, we offer a school-based program combining the Polish national curriculum with the IB Learner Profile. We focus on the development of skills that are key to the IB DP. The language of instruction is English. We offer Pre-IB students extended English as well as Creative Writing, Academic Skills (including academic writing), Latin, Visual Arts and Drama. Students have the choice between standard level and extended math.
We also offer regular workshops in the kitchen and in the carpentry shop. The above are enriched by place-based pedagogy in which local knowledge and experience as well as responsibility within the community play a key educational role. Our curriculum is designed not only to best prepare students to enter the IB DP programme, but also to be independent in adult life.
