A workshop at the Natural Sciences Laboratory Centre
A group of our students from IB1 and IB2 took part in a workshop at the Natural Sciences Laboratory Centre of Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński University in Warsaw.
The focus of the class was the use of measurement techniques to investigate the interactions of electromagnetic radiation (i.e. ultraviolet, visible and infrared light) with chemical compounds.
The students examined the extent to which sunglasses protect our eyes from harmful UV radiation, found out how to determine the content of a compound in an unknown sample, and discovered a method to identify different organic compounds.
During the workshop the students became familiar with modern experimental techniques used in chemistry and could get a first-hand experience of a modern chemist’s laboratory work.
