A visit to the day care of the Social Welfare Home
“On St. Andrew’s Day, November 29, several students from Pre-IB1 and Pre-IB2 went to the day care of the Social Welfare Home on Wiktorska Street to make this day more enjoyable for the seniors living there. The group prepared a quiz on general knowledge, pop culture, and music especially for them. It was a great opportunity to talk to grandma or grandpa about what series, films, characters and historical events are important to them. They also prepared cookies and small prizes for the competition winners. We were welcomed by the seniors with great enthusiasm and kindness .They were very engaged with the questions that struck a chord with them. In addition to the quiz, we did fortune telling by pouring wax. It turned out that seniors have an incredible imagination. In the pieces of wax, they saw a distant country, crocodiles, and a bride.
During the meeting we made new friends. The seniors were delighted with the youth, but students also expressed such opinions as: “What interesting stories this lady has, and that one is so charming!” “I’d like to come here again and play charades with them.” It was great to watch such an intergenerational bond form. Even though we are many years apart, there is a lot that we can give to one another.
