Translator’s Day – 30th September
Our annual celebration of Translator’s Day welcomed a special guest, Jarosław Mikołajewski.
Mikołajewski is a noted author, journalist, translator and poet, but came to talk to us about his work translating from Italian into Polish. His work translating Dante’s Divine Comedy helped give us insight into the work we are doing this year as we organize our interdisciplinary symposium and reflect on our reading of Dante over the summer. Currently his play, ALEJA ZASŁUŻONYCH is being shown at the Polonia theatre which we hope to attend during our free time.
After the morning lecture, we tried our hand at translating Crossing Brooklyn Ferry by Walt Whitman. We await the results of whose translation best captured the essence of Whitman.
